Why english?
Easy answer: because I can.
Well, I won’t be using English fully as the medium. The choice of language is pretty much depends on the following factors:
My mood
Well, that’s it. There’ll be time I feel things will be easier explained in Malay, there’ll be time I feel things will be easier explained in English.
Q: But pantun is inherently Malay. Won’t it be easier to use Malay language as the medium?A: Not necessarily.
See, reading things in Malay language like a pantun will definitely require good Malay language skill. However, when it comes to explaining things, it will be easier to use the language that you learn explaining with.
And, dear readers, unfortunately, much of my readings in analysing and dissecting literature are in English. Therefore, there’ll be terms that I need to use that I’m more familiar with in English. There’ll be time when I will use Malay language because I feel easier and more natural to explain things in Malay.
In conclusion, chill. Ini bukan “orang Melayu dah tak reti cakap Melayu”. Ini hanya “orang Melayu nak guna bahasa apa yang dia lebih selesa”. As far as language proficiency concerned, my Malay language skill is way way better than my English.
Thus, the reason why this blog on Pantun will be heavily in English.
